How To Determine The Right Placement Of A Blue Bird House

Determine the right placement of a blue bird house is essential if you want to attract these exciting birds to visit your yard. They have brilliant blue color and they will become a good addition to the surrounding landscape. Placing a blue bird house is the best way to attract these birds. However, you should know the suitable placement of a blue bird house if you want the birds to stay and be comfortable.

Basic information on blue birds

During the last ten years, the population of blue birds has decreased considerably in the United States. The main reason of this situation is the increased use of pesticides, climate change, and lack of trees for nesting. Therefore, if you build a blue bird house in the yard, then you are doing a big favor for the birds. However, you should always remember that placement of a blue bird house is important to make sure that it functions as intended.

Finding placement of a blue bird house

One of the most important things that you should remember on placement of a blue bird house is that it should be placed high above the ground, around six feet. You can have more than one blue bird house in the yard, but you have to place them around fifty to sixty feet apart because blue birds are territorial and they are not happy living too close with other blue birds.

It is advisable to face the house to the south or southeast. Furthermore, you need to select a spot where trees, shrubs, wires, and fences are within twenty-five feet to one hundred feet away from the blue bird house. Blue birds like to perch on these structures and they are also helpful for young birds during first flights.

If there is a forest nearby, most likely other birds like wrens, nuthatches, robins, titmice, and chickadees will attempt to use the blue bird house. In this case, you should allow them using the available spaces. They will become nice additions to the area and they will help you to control the population of insects as well.

If you find that blue birds do not want to nest in the bird house, then there may be a problem with the placement of the blue bird house. Try to find where the birds nest (on a tree or other bird houses) and place the bird house around ten to twenty feet from that nest.

A blue bird house is beneficial for your yard, but you should understand the right placement of the blue bird house so blue birds are willing to use it and will return year after year.
